FAQ
- What type of pre-departure COVID-19 test do I need to have before boarding my flight?
You will need to abide by the requirements of your airline in addition to the entry requirements of your destination, including any mandatory quarantine periods and subsequent COVID-19 testing. This usually includes providing the airline at check-in proof of a negative pre-departure PCR or supervised rapid antigen COVID-19 test result. Please ensure you check the requirements with your airline and destination country.
Visit our pages for Destination Test Requirements and Airline Test Requirements to find out more.
What is an approved pre-departure COVID-19 test? Most airlines and countries require either a negative RT-PCR or supervised rapid antigen test (RAT) for COVID-19.
COVID-19 testing and result certificates required for travel must be provided by private pathology clinics only. Free testing clinics are not suitable, as you need an approved pathology test and dated report that meets airline & government travel requirements.
What is an RT-PCR Test?RT-PCR stands for "Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction."
Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction is a laboratory technique combining reverse transcription of RNA into DNA and amplification of specific DNA targets using polymerase chain reaction. It is primarily used to measure the amount of a specific RNA. In the case of a Covid-19 RT-PCR Test, it is performed to detect genetic material specifically from the virus, which would indicate a positive test.
A nasal pharyngeal swab is performed on the patient and the test is performed under strict laboratory conditions on the swab.
Do I need to book for a specific test location & date?Yes.
When you are ready to book, the first step is to select the test product and then select the date and clinic location from the drop down box. Please note you must book at least 48 hours in advance of your test date.
If you urgently need a test within that period, please call our team on 1300 735 048 to organise.
Please note that testing clinic locations may change but we will contact you if your booking is affected.
What is the turn around time for a result?Supervised rapid antigen test results are usually available within 15 minutes of the test with travel certification provided within 2 hours. For PCR tests the laboratory performs tests 7 days a week. Depending on the time of collection, a result is usually available the next day, however sometimes sooner.
Do the test results include a QR code?Yes. The travel certifications include a QR Code.
Numerous destinations and airlines may request or require you to provide a QR code as part of your proof of negative test. The QR Codes allow airport and border agents to quickly scan and access digital files such as COVID test reports and certificates for simple verification.
What information is needed to book a test?To book a pre flight COVID test with us we require the following details. This is to ensure the results certificate provided has all your correct personal information to match your passport and travel details.
- Name as per passport
- Date of birth
- Address in Australia
